Setup your storyline, audition for your actors, pick up your camcorders and... scene 1 take 1....ACTION!! The EXCITEMENT is in the air. Long Beach VSA challenge all the schools to create a video. The video should only be 3-6 minutes long. It is recommended that you incorporate some cultural aspect into your Music Video, but this is optional and is not required. Be creative! Be weird! Mission Statement:
The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) of California State University Long Beach (CSULB) is formed on the idea of uniting individuals with a common interest in education, social involvement and cultural development of the Vietnamese community.
FAQ:
What kind of activities does VSA do?
What can I look forward to?
- Within our organization at CSULB, we strive to strengthen the bond between members and friends through a multitude of social activities; these activities & events consist of dances & formals, community service, support & awareness programs, sport competitions, camping trips, retreats, fundraisers, bonfires, leadership conferences, political events, film festivals, pool & beach outings, games and other various socials.
There are new events every week on & off campus and many opportunities for you to participate in. Some events that CSULB VSA puts together every year include: Black April Commemoration, Winter Retreat, CSULB Annual Culture Night, Tet Festival, Moon Festival, Bone Marrow Drive.
Why should I join VSA?
- If you are looking to make friends, meet new people, learn more about culture, or you simply need something to do outside of class VSA is for you. It is all too common to be wrapped up in commuter mode, so here is your chance to become active, get involved in your community and have FUN!
Do I have to be Vietnamese to join?
- No! We are an organization that promotes Vietnamese awareness; we are not Vietnamese exclusive. In fact, we encourage people from all backgrounds to take part in this student organization. Language barriers scare you? Don't worry - most of the members in VSA mainly speak english. All in all, we hope that you will take the initiative to participate in an organization that wishes to truly make a difference in the lives of those who surround us, as well as ourselves. Collectively we can make a big impact on the Vietnamese community and we welcome all individuals who share the same view.
I'm a starving college student. Will it cost me money?
- There are no membership charges. Depending on the occasion, there may be simple ticket fees for certain events. But for the most part, going to meetings and partaking in events is FREE! It may only cost you gas money, an arm and a leg.
What makes us stand out from other organizations on campus?
- We have a unique alliance with other universities and organizations. We seek to expand our horizon through collaboration with over a dozen other universities and organizations around Southern California including:
UCLA, UCR, USC, CSUF, UCSD, CSULA, Mt. Sac, UCSB, CSU Pomona, UCI, UVSA, ICC, VietAct Org.
This offers an opportunity for our club to network with other schools by attending local events planned by other organizations. Youll have the chance to meet many students, leaders, activists and other people from all over the state and country.
Why go to the meetings?
- By going to the weekly meetings, you'll be updated with events, be able to play games, eat and bond with other students outside of class. We will have special activities planned out each week so look forward to it! Get informed. Get active. Go to the weekly meetings.

VCN 2010 is a special one this year. Our board came together to write a story that will last a lifetime. The story has many twist and turns. Pretty much like Korean and Spanish dramas. We are currently casting actors and plotting out scenes. Stay tune!

2010 winter retreat was an memorial event. VSA members had the chance to bond and create everlasting memories from the cabin to the slopes of Big Bear. We had great food and stories that will never end and also pictures that are worth more than an anyone can bargain for. If you miss it this year make sure you do not miss winter retreat next year!
